Alliance Members
Help us protect our watersheds for future generations.
Join our alliance today.
Niagara Watershed Alliance is a consortium of educational
and environmental organizations, elected officials, economic, public health and
safety groups that seek to support one anothers efforts to stop the degradation
of the Niagara Watershed and Great Lakes Basin.
Niagara Watershed Alliance was formed by a group of
concerned residents who are committed to restoring the health of the Niagara
Region Watershed ecosystem. While more emphasis is finally being placed on
protecting the Great Lakes, there continues to be a disconnect with crucial
governmental agencies at the state and federal levels. Some recent troubling
decisions include:
1. Failure to remove radioactive material at West Valley
(just south of Buffalo, New York),
2. Failure of the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers to resolve
the issue of uranium stored at the former Lake Ontario Ordnance Works site (near
Youngstown, New York) and its refusal to work with its established Restoration
Advisory Board,
3. The decision of the N.Y. Department of Environmental
Conservation to continue to approve applications for land filling toxic and
hazardous wastes in Niagara County where toxics have leaked into the Niagara
River and Lake Ontario.
Each of your organizations has equally pressing issues.
We are writing to your organization asking for your
participation by becoming one of our Alliance Members. Alliance Members will be
listed on our website, and with your permission, linked to your respective
websites. We are planning several public forums to call attention to bad
decisions and to educate the public on the importance of a having a healthy
watershed. We hope that all participating organizations can benefit in a
concerted effort to expose issues faced by one and all. We are committed to
working with existing environmental and economic organizations in a coordinated
effort to protect, maintain, and restore the Niagara Region Watershed.
Please advise if we can list you as an (1) Alliance
Member, (2) include a link to your website, (3) provide a one or two sentence
blurb about issues your organization is facing?
We will keep you abreast of issues as they surface and hope
that you can actively participate in our public forums. Thank you.
